It handles gates up to 1,700 lbs and 40 ft in length with precision and reliability.

- When Battery Backup is configured for one-time open or leave open, the operator’s braking system is released automatically, allowing the gate to be pushed back manually in the event of a catastrophic failure.
- The Electronic Gate Open/Close function disengages the braking system for 15 minutes using a local or remote key switch wired into the jog inputs on the motor controller.
- The Gate Release Switch provides the same 15-minute disengagement.
- After 15 minutes, the operator returns to normal operation automatically.
Optional Feature
In response to customer demand, all Maximum Controls sliding gate operators now ship with programmable virtual limits as the standard configuration. The magnetic sensor harness and chain magnets are available as an optional upgrade, factory installed or retrofitted in the field.
Here is how the magnetic limit sensor system works:
- Hall Effect sensors identify precise rotational positions throughout gate travel
- DSP memory logs 30 samples per inch during every inch of gate movement and stores limit positions in non-volatile RAM
- Chain magnets establish open and closed positions during a learn mode, where the gate travels at half speed while limits are recorded
- Limits are re-learned automatically on the first cycle following a complete AC and battery power loss
The MAX 1700 FS PRO is engineered with precision components designed for high-traffic commercial and industrial applications. Every element of the operator is built for reliability, from the heavy-duty cast iron gearbox to the advanced brushless DC motor and intelligent power management system.

The MAX 1700 FS PRO uses a Size 60, 20:1 high-efficiency, heavy-duty cast iron gearbox engineered to produce maximum torque while maintaining a low amperage draw and near-silent operation.
The gearbox housing is rugged cast iron with bronze gears and double-sealed, heat-treated solid shafts, developed by a team with more than 40 years of experience in the gearbox industry. High-speed ball bearings and a synthetic oil bath keep the operator running reliably across extreme temperature ranges, with no belts, chains, or pulleys that could wear down over time and create maintenance issues.
The MAX 1700 FS PRO brushless DC motor uses Hall Effect magnetic sensing to track precise rotational positions throughout gate movement, logging over 30 samples per inch of gate travel. This positional feedback drives intelligent ramp-up and ramp-down of gate speed, reducing mechanical stress on every component in the system.
Hall Effect sensors continuously monitor gate position, synchronizing bi-parting gates to open and close at matching speeds. This technology works alongside the dynamic magnetic brake system to stop the gate instantly on contact with an obstacle, protecting people and equipment from harm.
The brushless DC motor is rated for operation up to 165°F (74°C), exceeding the thermal tolerance of most competing motor technologies currently available. Torque output is equivalent to a 1¼ HP AC motor, with an operational life of approximately 35,000 hours or around 6 million cycles, meaning the motor is built to last for decades under normal use. The MAX 1700 FS PRO power supply uses a 15-amp toroid transformer and power management board, engineered to handle extreme load and temperature conditions without being overstressed. Input voltage is selectable between 115V and 230V via a built-in selection switch.
During normal gate operation, the system draws from AC power only, keeping the battery in reserve and preserving its service life for when it’s actually needed.

When unexpected obstacles like rock formations or buried utility lines make direct trenching impractical, the Magic Box provides an alternative power management solution that eliminates the need for that run entirely.
Unlike battery-dependent systems, the Magic Box does not rely on battery power as a booster. This means the gate remains fully operational regardless of battery condition, even if the batteries are malfunctioning or removed entirely. The MAX 1700 FS PRO is built around two core goals: maximum security and ease of maintenance. High gate speed and advanced loop management are standard, but what truly sets this operator apart is its built-in diagnostic capability.
The system uses non-volatile memory to continuously log performance data and input/output events in real time. When a complex or intermittent problem occurs, a technician simply plugs a USB thumb drive into the onboard USB port and downloads the full event history instantly. The data exports as a .TXT file that can be reviewed on-site or emailed directly to the factory for remote diagnosis.
The event log captures the most recent 8,000 events across all system modules, giving technicians a complete, timestamped record of everything the operator has done, making problems that were once difficult to isolate straightforward to identify and resolve.
Tamper Alert and Gate Disable
The MAX 1700 FS PRO includes Maximum Controls’ patented Tamper Alert system, which activates a relay output the moment an unauthorized entry attempt is detected, whether through a chain drop or forced gate movement. If the chain is cut and the magnet separates from the sensor, the Tamper Alert relay triggers immediately. That relay output can activate an audible alarm, connect to a burglar alarm system, or trigger any other device that accepts a relay input, including security cameras.
The Gate Disable feature is unique to Maximum Controls gate operators. It prevents unauthorized access by disabling normal open commands from devices like keypads or exit loops, stopping anyone from exploiting those inputs to force the gate open. When Gate Disable is activated, occupants have a three-minute window to exit the property before the system arms. Any unauthorized attempt to open the gate after that point will be denied, and the system will sound an alarm and trigger the Tamper Alert relay.
